The worldwide loss of biodiversity and the climate crisis are global threats that require a comprehensive response across all sectors of society. The European Commission's Green Deal represents such a response. In this context, it is necessary to develop a comprehensive integrity framework for research and innovation that takes climate and environmental ethics into account and that will be implemented in the Green Transition Policy. This is not only about addressing those areas of research and technology that are associated with significant environmental damage, but also those that specifically aim to generate knowledge and foster innovation to tackle the crises mentioned. This project, funded as a Horizon Europe Coordination & Support Action and including 15 consortium partners and a comprehensive Stakeholder Advisory Board, aims to develop guidelines that will help the European Commission to evaluate technology development projects and accompany them with expert-informed governance.
The main objective of RE4GREEN is to contribute to an ethics and integrity framework in the European Research Area to support the transition towards a sustainable economy and society in line with the European Green Deal.
RE4GREEN is based on a bottom-up approach using the Social Lab methodology to integrate the expertise of different stakeholders into the development of practical guidelines on ethics and integrity in research, as well as recommendations on training materials and programmes for researchers, ethics and integrity experts, advisors and ethics committees to ensure that research and innovation provide holistic solutions for the green transition.
