On the Internet, it is not always clear how trustworthy information and consulted sources on health are. Against this background, the project "Guidance on Health Information on the Internet" (OriGes) has pursued its aim of strengthening consumer competence in dealing with online health information over several funding phases. To this end - initially at the University of Cologne and later at the Center for Life Ethics at the University of Bonn - two websites were set up, further developed in a diversity-sensitive manner and translated into Easy Language to help those seeking advice distinguish between serious and dubious information.
This approach is also advocated by the Stiftung Gesundheitswissen (Health Knowledge Foundation): The foundation stands for independent, evidence-based and easy-to-understand health information. Following the conclusion of the funding phase, the websites developed in the OriGes project for adults (www.gesund-im-netz.net) and young people (www.klick2health.net) will now be incorporated into the Stiftung Gesundheitswissen's long-term service. "We are delighted that we can pass on the results of our research, in which so many different contributors were involved, to the Stiftung Gesundheitswissen for sustainable use and further development," says ethicist Prof. Dr. Christiane Woopen, head of the OriGes project and founder of the Center for Life Ethics.
